“Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.” ― Epicurus
Desires cause peace to disappear. You think that acquiring things will make you feel secure, but the reality is that the more you have the more you seem to want. Then the more you acquire the less your mind seem to be at peace as your whole being becomes griped with fear of losing it all.
You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. James 4:2
Many lose themselves to their desires. Too often we see the grass on the other side as being greener or wish we were on par with the Joneses without fully comprehending what it will cost to be there. Some have become eager to have their desires met, they will do whatever its takes to achieve them including walking the darker side of the earth None ever stopping to recognize the grief they cause to not only themselves but everyone in their path.
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Mark 8:36.
Letting desires control you are the cause of all conflicts. When you want something and cannot get it you become frustrated. Learning to handle your desires in a positive manner is learning how to stay peaceful.
